What is Erosion
and Sediment Control?
Erosion and sediment control is the practice of managing construction sites to prevent sediment-laden runoff from leaving the site and contaminating waterways, drains and neighbouring properties. In Queensland, all development activities involving land disturbance are required by law to implement approved ESC measures before and during construction.
Best practice erosion and sediment control involves redirecting uncontaminated water away from disturbed areas, stabilising exposed soil surfaces to reduce erosion, and capturing and treating runoff before it leaves the site. Poorly managed sites risk prosecution, stop-work orders and significant remediation costs.
